Amazon Music has introduced innovative AI-powered features that promise to enhance its users’ podcast discovery experience. The newly launched “Topics” feature allows listeners to explore podcast episodes by discussing specific topics. This functionality is powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and supported by human labor to ensure the accuracy of topic tags.
When users visit a podcast episode page on Amazon Music, they will now see Topic tags below the episode description. By tapping on a tag, users can access a list of related podcast episodes on the same topic, such as “Coffee” or “Dopamine,” beyond traditional categories like Comedy and News. This advancement aims to make finding relevant podcast content easier and more intuitive.
The AI system works by analyzing podcast transcripts and descriptions to identify key topics. Human team members then review and refine these tags to ensure they are relevant and accurate. This blend of AI and human input ensures high-quality topic categorization, enhancing the overall user experience.
The Topics feature is available to all Amazon Music users in the U.S. on both iOS and Android devices starting today. It will initially cover top podcasts, including popular shows like The Daily, SmartLess, and This American Life. Amazon plans to expand this feature to include more podcast content, thereby increasing the range of topics and improving the list of related episodes.
Additionally, Amazon Music has introduced Maestro, an AI playlist generator that creates personalized playlists based on user prompts. Launched in beta in April, Maestro leverages AI to curate music playlists tailored to individual preferences.
These AI-driven enhancements follow Amazon’s acquisition of Snackable AI last year, a move aimed at bolstering its podcasting capabilities. With these new features, Amazon Music is set to offer a more engaging and personalized podcast discovery experience, positioning itself as a leader in the evolving digital audio landscape.
